Dartmouth Energy Collaborative Lunch: Energy Extraction in the Arctic
Anne’s work focuses on impacts on the Arctic related to impacts from oil and gas extraction.
Anne Merrild Hansen is Professor of Social Science, Arctic Oil and Gas Studies at Ilisimatusarfik, Associate Professor in Environmental Assessment and the Arctic at Aalborg University, Denmark, and a Fulbright Arctic Initiative scholar 2015-2016 with University of Alaska, Fairbanks. She is also a member of the regional ‘Adaptation Actions for a Changing Arctic’ team on Baffin Bay – Davis Strait for the Arctic Council. She has published widely on impacts assessments related to extractive industries, social indicators and determinants of wellbeing in the Arctic. Anne specialises in participatory and engaging research practices. She is a member of the International Association for Impact Assessment. Anne holds a PhD in environmental planning (2011) and a MSc in Engineering (2002) from Aalborg University.

Thayer School of Engineering is hosting a talk with Marcy L. Reed, Chief of Business Operations, Engineering and Process at National Grid. Ms. Reed oversees the U.S. Gas and Electric Process & Engineering, as well as, the Customer Group. She joined National Grid in 1988 and has held various positions including most recently as President of National Grid Massachusetts, as well as, positions in finance, merger integration, and corporate affairs. She also spent three years in London as the head of Investor Relations for National Grid.

The 2017 University of Michigan Renewable Energy case competition will take place on 30 Nov. – 1 Dec. at the Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The RECC features MBA teams from top national and international business schools, who compete to solve one of the many significant challenges facing the renewable energy industry today. Ever wonder who keeps the lights on … ? ISO-NE does. Tuck’s Revers Center for Energy will host a one-day trek to the Regional Transmission Organization in Holyoke, MA. ISO-NE is charged with the three critical missions that keep the NE region powered (Grid Operation, Market Admin, Power Planning). This hands-on experiential learning is ideal for students exploring the energy industry and complements other workshop and classroom learning opportunities at Tuck.

Susan Flanagan, the Managing Partner at GE Capital will be part of the Revers Center for Energy and Center for Private Equity speaker series on Financing the New Energy Economy

Susan T. Flanagan is Managing Director in GE's Energy Global Markets Division, responsible for developing and executing international financing solutions to support sale of power generation equipment. Susan works in both the traditional thermal power as well as renewable energy areas. Previously, she lived in Beijing, PRC working in a GE Capital joint venture with China's State Grid Corporation.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Flanagan worked as an aerospace engineer specializing in combustion, including design and testing of hypersonic combustion systems and aircraft fuel injection systems.
Ms. Flanagan earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Columbia University, an MS in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and an MBA in Finance and International Business from NYU's Stern School of Business.

On November 10, 2017, the Revers Center for Energy will host a one-day intensive seminar on Commodity Trading. This workshop will be an in-depth introduction to what commodities are, futures and forwards, standardized futures contracts, derivatives, trading strategies, and the organization of commodity trading. There will be some case studies related to each of the topics.
